  • Discover geological phenomena unique to the area

DAY 1 : Overview of the crater

Day 1 sees us gathering at the Desert Shade Eco Camp to ensure our gear is ready for the hike ahead. In the afternoon we’ll take a short hike along the rim of the crater. From this viewpoint we will see parts of the hiking ahead of us in the distance, while getting an introduction to the geological phenomenon we call the Maktesh.

Overnight: We’ll be sleeping like true nomads in a Bedouin tent, waking up to the sunrise over the Ramon Crater, just like the Bedouins of this region have done for generations.

Day 2 : The Lotz Cliff

After witnessing a spectacular sunrise and enjoying some breakfast, we should be charged and ready for our first real hiking day! We'll hike towards Lotz cliff, a gradual climb which takes us through a mysterious wadi with Atlantic pistacia trees and more unique vegetation. We'll enjoy even more amazing views of the Ramon Crater from the northern rim while following the cliffs along its edge.

Total distance: 16km

Over night: Overnight: Camping out under the stars!

Day 3: The tip of the "heart"

Day 3 of this amazing desert hike will be spent along the rocky ridge of the southern Ramon Crater rim. This is a challenging day, with more elevation gain and rocky terrain, but the breathtaking scenery will be worth the effort, trust us on that one!

Total distance: 15 km

Overnight: Camping out under the stars!

Day 4: Across the crater

Day 4 sees us hike through the crater all the way back to the town of Mitzpe Ramon, which is mostly flat hiking with a final steep ascent. We'll arrive in the afternoon at the Desert Shade Eco Camp, where we’ll sit back and appreciate the awesome desert hike we’ve just completed with a final cup of desert herbal tea.

Total distance: 12 km
